The Jólasveinar, often described as Iceland’s version of Santa Claus, are beloved characters from Icelandic folklore. Rather than a single Santa, Icelandic tradition tells of thirteen mischievous figures who appear one by one in the days leading up to Christmas. Beginning thirteen nights before Christmas Eve, children place their shoes on the windowsill, hoping for a small gift. Each night, a different Jólasveinn arrives, leaving treats for well-behaved children or a potato for those who have misbehaved.
This felted figure is handmade using traditional techniques and crafted from 100% Icelandic sheep wool. Each wool-felt creation is carefully needle-felted, with designs inspired by Icelandic folklore, mythology, and cultural traditions, often reflecting characters and figures deeply rooted in Icelandic heritage.
