The Jólasveinar, often described as Iceland’s version of Santa Claus, are beloved characters from Icelandic folklore. Rather than a single Santa, tradition speaks of thirteen playful and mischievous visitors who arrive one by one in the days leading up to Christmas. During the final thirteen nights before Christmas Eve, children place a shoe on the windowsill in hopes of a small surprise. Each night, a different Jólasveinn arrives, leaving treats for well-behaved children or a potato for those who have misbehaved.
Each figure is carefully handmade from felted Icelandic wool using traditional needle-felting techniques and crafted from 100% Icelandic sheep wool. The designs are inspired by Icelandic mythology, folklore, and cultural traditions, bringing these iconic holiday characters to life in wool.
